Weekend Round-up!

This time of year I would need a duplicate to see all the incredible shows in town, here is a quick round-up of shows happening this month. A few are closing this weekend so get out of the rain and into a theatre to see one (or 5!)

MATILDA THE MUSICAL JR at Stage Theatre Company in Hopkins and so incredibly fun! I’ve had all the music stuck in my head since Opening Night and wish them a fantastic run! Perfect for kids 5+ with catchy music, awesome choreography, and a rebellious energy celebrating the power of kids owning their own story. Running through May 19th, learn more.

THEY WEAR TEAL RIBBONS AROUND THEIR TONGUES by Siddeeqah Shabazz was my first time attending a production with Full Circle and eager to return for another production! Presented on the set of a 90’s sitcom, we meet the Douglasses who are known for their humor and status but a secret is revealed that will shatter this image but hopefully bring the family to a place of healing. Performing at the Gremlin Theatre in St. Paul through April 28th, learn more.

Tumble out of bed and stumble to the kitchen, Pour myself a cup of ambition and yawn and stretch and try to come to life” These lyrics have been rolling around my head since Opening Night of 9 to 5 THE MUSICAL at Lyric Arts. We sat in a full crowd ready for fun and that’s exactly what we got. Based on the 1980’s film wit music by Dolly Patron, don’t miss the the schemes and incredible team- running through May 12th in Anoka. Read more.

My first memory attending a show at the Orpheum was THE LION KING when I was in elementary school. Now over 20 years later I got that same glee of excitement walking into the Orpheum to return to Pride Rock. April 27th, the tour is celebrating it’s 22 year anniversary! This stunning show has been in town all month but closes on April 28th! Read more.

If you don’t have plans to see THE COLOR PURPLE at Theater Latté Da then you need to pull out your calendar and pick a date ASAP! This stunning production closes on May 5th and I am hoping to catch it again before then! This production was my introduction to the story and I have the book and movie up next to further explore this story of resilience, joy and despair, and the power of finding your people and place in the world. Father/Daughter night at THE SOUND OF MUSIC at Artistry MN in Bloomington was an absolute blast. As one of our favorite musicals it was so fun to see it come to life on stage with this stunning cast. Headed to the 9th floor of the Guthrie for ANNE BOLEYN presented by The University of Minnesota B.F.A. Actor Training Program in the Dowling Studio! This drama challenges the way we view Anne Boleyn beyond being one of the wives of King Henry VII. Just running April 25-28, it was my first time attending one of their performances and look forward to seeing more and these artists in the future. Learn more.

Attended the preview performance of THE LANGUAGE ARCHIVE by Julia Cho with Theatre Pro Rata performing at The Crane Theater through May 4. Come check out this cool venue and this wonderful show about love, miscommunication, and the power of language. A talented team has brought this play to life with some really inventive use of an old school projection screen to fill in this world of language and books. Learn more.
