March Madness 2024

I love this time of year, there are a tons of different productions all over town. With a wide variety of shows running right now there are options for everyone. Here is a wrap up of some of the shows still running this month to check out.

BABBLE LAB at Children’s Theatre Company created and performed by Autumn Ness was a silly and wonderful exploration of letters. My 4 year old niece sat so intently as we entered the “letter lab” and watched as the scientist ran around the lab as letters jumped around, flew off the stage, and even brought us on an adventure under water. A fabulous show for pre-school aged kids with pre-show activities in the lobby and running just 45 minutes. Now through April 14th, learn more.

UTOPIA, LIMITED with Gilbert and Sullivan’s Very Light Opera Company was a lovely introduction to another opera I had not seen. With a fabulous glossary of terms in the program it makes opera so accessible and easy to follow along for any newcomer like me. This show has a great cast taking over the stage for full company numbers. Catch this revised production through March 24th, learn more.

RADIANT VERMON at Lyric Arts is the show I have been most curious to see this season. I had never heard of it and as I left I can say its definitely one of the most interesting shows I have seen on their stage. Written by Philip Ridley, I loved this dark comedy about how far you are willing to go to achieve your perfect dream. RADIANT VERMIN is a wild exploration of consumerism, housing shortages, and the cost of perfection. Head on over to Anoka today so you don’t miss this incredible production, running through March 24th. Read the review.

BEAUTIFUL at Chanhassen Dinner Theatre may just be my new favorite production at CDT. An incredibly fun evening with delicious drinks, food, and dessert with a top-notch show as the cherry on top. The entire cast assembled is a dream led by Monet Sabel who is absolutely incredible as Carole King and Shad Hanley as Gerry Goffin. They bring the life and music of Carole King to the stage and make it incredibly hard not to sing and dance along. Learn more and get your tickets.

HELLS CANYON with Theater Mu. I am first to admit I am a baby when it comes to scary things but quickly learned in my theatre going adventures that when it’s Theater Mu to just trust them and take a chance on a new genre, and so far I have found you won’t want to miss the result. Written by Keiko Green, HELLS CANYON is suspenseful, thought-provoking, funny, and yes scary at times but this production is so incredibly powerful and engaging it’s one I recommend you check it out before it closes March 17th. Read the review.

ON BECKETT at Guthrie was conceived and performed by Tony- Award winning actor Bill Irwin takes on us an exploration of the creative process behind working on Samuel Beckett’s texts and the treat of his this skills as a master clown. Running through March 24th. Read the review.

THE HATMAKER’S WIFE with Ten Thousand Things left me speechless with a production full of heart, imagination, and stunning performances. I was deeply moved and now incredibly grateful to TTT for sharing this story with us. Just through March 17 and with limited seating in each performance they fill up fast so don’t delay and get your tickets to this one! Learn more.

LOVE AND OTHER THINGS THAT RUINED MY LIFE at the Brave New Workshop. So excited to finally make it over to the Dudley Riggs Theatre to see the cast of Brave New Workshop present a new sketch show about all things love; dating apps, marriage, first loves, and break-ups. IT was such a fun evening out in Minneapolis. Running through May 18th. Read the review.

SILENT SKY at Theatre in the Round was superb! Digging into the life and career of astronomer Henrietta Leavitt in the early 20th century. This wonderful script by Lauren Gunderson is a celebration of science, math, sisterhood, and the opportunities that live in the stars. Now through March 17th! Read the review.

THE MONEYLENDERS DAUGHTER at Six Points Theater is a world premiere picking up where Shakespeare’s THE MERCHANT OF VENICE left off exploring the relationship of Shylock and his daughter Jessica. I don’t have much familiarity with the original text but found this new play to be very interesting and moving with a phenomenal team bringing it to the stage in St. Paul. Now through March 17. Learn more and get tickets.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND at Children’s Theatre Company. We went “down the rabbit hole” to the incredible world of Wonderland with the dazzling cast. Following the classic characters of Alice in Wonderland this production is full of theatre magic, puppetry, clowning, and fun. Running through March 31!
